"And in this Corner we have.....” well, in John McCain’s world it would be him against the entire Congress in an 'Ask the Prime Minister' setting. For those who have never indulged themselves with British politics, I would recommend a nice dose every now and then and enjoy the spectacle. I for one think having the President answers the questions of the members of Congress is a wonderful idea because it would be the ultimate in reality television, at least for the political junkie like me. The decorum of such an event is another question all together because the British Parliament has a habit of booing, hissing and general rowdiness. It would be hard for me to see Pelosi or Obey for that matter really get all that riled up and hot under the collar.
While I think McCain made a few good points in his speech it was maybe just a little too transcendental for me. If he is able to follow through on some of his policies like earmark reform and the economy and my favorite, the flat-taxesque proposal then he will do well overall. However, he must still be held accountable for the cap and trade system or the 'Feel Good Tax' as I will call it forever more. We could put ‘Feel Good Tax’ in bold green on tee-shirts with pictures of cute, cuddly man eating polar bears, just a thought.
Only time will tell whether McCain will follow through on his proposals and whether they will appeal to the American electorate. November is a mile years away in the political time frame so grab your magic eight ball and a seat and hang on, because we aren’t there yet.
