I am a young conservative voter but as such this seems odd to some people only because they seem to be of the Churchillian mindset that if, "You are not liberal when you are twenty you have no heart, if you are not conservative when you are forty you have no brain." Well, that is a very interesting idea but I would argued I bypassed the whole knee-jerk liberal ideolgy and went for the stuff that makes the most rational sense but that doesn't mean I do not have passion for my views.
Passion often plays a major part in the mind set of a twenty something and that is a great quality, however, passion without substance or knowledge is just lunacy. I have many passions and for the most part they relate to issues of both domestic and foreign relevance and yet my worldview is that of a conservative i.e. I believe free market economics works and entiltlements do not; that a strong national defense or peace through strength is a policy that should continue to be embraced; that the freedoms of the Constiution should be upheld by all Americans; finally, that the government should be under a restraining order and stay at least a thousand miles away from my wallet.
These ideas are not new nor are they out of date but timeless and should be upheld by our leaders. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness should not be: Life, for terrorist but not the unborn; Liberty, for the enemies of America and not our soliders; The Pursuit of Happiness, for those who think they are owed everything and return nothing. I am sorry but this is not my idea of freedom and until these ideals are confronted, the decline of the individual and the rise of the state will continue.
I would like to end with a quote from President Ronald Reagan: "Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today's world do not have".
